San Antonio Zoo unveils Congo Falls, its most ambitious and immersive habitat yet, marking the return of gorillas after more than 30 years. This two-acre, state-of-the-art habitat replicates the lush African jungle, offering enriching environments for gorillas and unforgettable experiences for guests. At its heart stands the Mays Family Silverback Peak, a revolutionary 70-foot-tall gorilla tower—the first of its kind—allowing gorillas to climb high above the zoo for panoramic views of the San Antonio skyline and The Ralston event center. Explore expansive roaming areas, interactive gardens, waterfalls, and climbing structures, all designed to stimulate natural gorilla behaviors and provide guests with incredible vantage points.
During construction, limestone was discovered from the very quarry that supplied stone for the Alamo, deepening the zoo’s connection to San Antonio’s rich history.
